General Information

Peaceful location. The Eliza Thompson House is situated in historic city centre Savannah, one half mile from the Savannah Civic Center Theater and the Savannah History Museum. Less than 2 miles from the guesthouse is the Telfair Museum of Arts and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at Lafayette Square. Shopping and dining venues at Riverfront Plaza are less than 2 miles from the inn.
Features. Built in 1847, the Eliza Thompson House is situated on Jones Street, located in a beautiful neighborhood with tree lined, cobblestone streets and sidewalks. In 1995, this landmark Greek Revival fashion structure underwent a broad transformation that reconstructed its historic design and introduced European ancient furniture and accessories to its interiors. Outdoors, the centerpiece of the guesthouse is a brick paved park patio, featuring a koi pond and fountain with tall aquatic plants. Eliza Thompson's cordiality continues today with complimentary mainland breakfasts, afternoon receptions offering appetizers and wine, and evening servings of dessert and coffee. Concierge services are available.

Guestrooms. Two structures cottage individualy colored rooms for guests. Lodgings interior the Main House feature 12 foot ceilings, fireplaces and hardwood floors with oriental rugs. Furniture and accessories comprise 4 placard rice beds, old sofas, armoires and dressing tables. Carriage House rooms for guests feature nine foot ceilings, ancient amenities and French doors opening onto the park patio. All lodgings give privy bathrooms equiped with bathrobes. Select rooms for guests are equiped with flat screen televisions and CD players. Complimentary over-the-air Internet access is obtainable.

Expert Tip. The Eliza Thompson House was constructed by Joseph Thompson, a victorious cotton merchant and financier. A portrait of Thompson hangs in one of the inn's rooms for guests. Widowed in 1855, Eliza Thompson chose to manage her husband's investments herself and kept an industrious public life by frequently recreational visitors in her home and patio. The cottage remained in the Thompson family till the early 1920s and operated as an inn since 1978.
