Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 beckon to the north, only several intersections away. A half-mile south, the lofty twin spires of Saints Peter and Paul Church are visible high above rooftops, marking Washington Square, the center of North Beach. The Transamerica Pyramid, the city’s tallest building, and other pecuniary area skyscrapers are framed in the distance. East of the hotel is a fusion of room buildings, cafes and boutiques. Driving Directions: FROM THE SOUTH (including San Francisco International Airport-SFO)-On Highway 101 North, follow the signs toward the Bay Bridge. Exit on Fourth Street, which is the last exit before the Bay Bridge. At the end of the exit ramp, go directly across the intersection; you will be on Bryant Street. Staying to the right. Follow Bryant Street down to the Embarcadero (which runs along the waterfront). Turn left on Embarcadero; follow it to Pier 33. Receive into one of the 2 left turn lanes and turn left onto Bay Street. Follow Bay Street to Mason Street and turn left onto Mason Street. The San Remo Hotel is one block south on the right at 2237 Mason Street. From THE EAST (including Oakland Airport, Yosemite)-Take Interstate 80 West onto the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge. As you approach the end of the bridge, receive into the far right lane. Exit on Fremont Street. At the end of the exit ramp, take a right onto Folsom Street. Turn left onto Embarcadero; follow it to Pier 33. Receive into one of the 2 left turn lanes and turn left onto Bay Street. Follow Bay Street to Mason Street and turn left onto Mason Street. The San Remo Hotel is one block south on the right at 2237 Mason Street. From THE NORTH (including Napa Valley)-Follow Highway 101 South onto the Golden Gate Bridge. After the toll plaza, staying to the left. Follow the signs labeled Marina Boulevard. Staying on Marina Blvd. and watch for Safeway (supermarket). Turn right onto the next st, Laguna, and then turn left onto Bay Street. Continue heading east 11 blocks and turn right onto Mason Street. The San Remo Hotel is one block south on the right at 2237 Mason Street. Social Transportation: San Francisco has an huge social transit system, another popular option for investigating the town.
