General Information

This Victorian manor house was built in 1895 for Russell Spencer Hines with money acquired from his mining, work and true estate ventures. It's believed to have been planned by Utah architect Richard Karl August Kletting, who also designed the Utah State Capitol. According to historic records, the manor house was constructed as a showplace during the recovery from a main boom-and-bust period in Provo's economic heritage. One of the 1st homes built for Provo's 1st generation gentry, the R. Spencer and Kitty Hines Mansion is one of Utah County's most historical residential landmarks. An award of merit was awarded by the Utah Heritage Foundation to Douglas K. Hardy for his renewal of the building between 1975 and 1978. During that 3 year period the 1st level wings were added. The cupola is a representation of the original which was removed plenty of years ago. In November 1995, Gene and Sandi Henderson purchased the manor house and directed the remodeling of the building which consists of nine characteristic bedrooms, two-person jetted tubs, king and queen-sized beds and armoires with TV's in turn-of-the-century decoration.
