Dating from 1778, the inn's heritage and character is prevalent throughout, with its blackened oak beams and open log fire. Old Winchelsea is a Sussex historic gem bragging one of the best collections of history old-fashioned buildings in Britain. One of Edward I's New Towns, Winchelsea was relocated on Iham Hill three miles inland when Old Winchelsea on the onetime spit was lost to the chief old-fashioned storms between 1233 and 1288. Hertiage buildings in Winchelsea comprise St Thomas Church, once the size of a spacious cathedral and the ancient Court Hall, now place for the city's museum.
