General Information

Peaceful, Dignified RetreatStrand House provides a peaceful, dignified escape from the stresses of contemporary living. We provide cozy, deluxe suites and individual service in a historic cottage and with a love of food and cooking, Mary and Hugh create the feel of a little intimate Country House Hotel. A luxury bed & breakfast just two miles from Rye. Fine food and wine with out leaving the cottage. The cottage dates from the 13th Century making it even older than the famed Mermaid Inn Rye. It was a hospital inhabited by monks and was added to in the fifteenth Century when it was the countryside workhouse. Its situation was authentically on the shoreline below the city and outside the defensive walls. It's full of period detail with features low oak beamed ceilings in a lot of of the apartments, winding stairs, inglenook fireplaces in both the hall and breakfast room, leaded windows. Strand House features 10 bedrooms, all of which are various in character size and fashion. They collection from the luxuriant 4 placard Tudor Room to apartments with double beds, king and twin, a park suite on the 1st floor and a family apartment. 2 have baths and the relaxation en-suite showers, all have color televisions, tea making amenities with hand made biscuits and hanging space. The more excellent rooms have tables and chairs and fluffy dressing gowns and use of a DVD video library. The historic old-fashioned cities of Rye and Winchelsea are within short distance and able to fill a day, looking in boutiques, eating in tea apartments, strolling the cobbled Mermaid Street and admiring the local architecture. The cottage is a nice base for exploration the local houses and terraces in the region such as Great Dixter and we have a lot of National Trust properties within a tranquil drive including Sissinghurst, Batemans, Scotney Castle, Smallhythe Place, and Bodiam Castle. For steam enthusiasts, there is the Ronmey Hythe and Dymchurch railway, Tenterden Railway and Bluebell railways.


Transportation

Traveling to Strand House From LondonFrom the M25 take the M20 down as far as Ashford Junction ten. Then Turn off onto A2070 heading South and drive across 2 roundabouts. There is then a slip highway signposted A2070 Brenzett and Lydd Airport. Take this and go direct across the roundabout at the bottom staying on the A2070. Follow the highway to Brenzett and go direct across the roundabout following the A259 for Rye. Go around Rye on the A259 heading for Hastings and Strand House Guest House is 2 miles behind Rye, just before you reach Winchelsea. Alternatively, from the M25 take the A21 Southbound past Tonbridge approximately 12 miles to Flimwell. Turn off here onto the A268 to Rye and then the A259 to Hastings and Strand House Guest House is 2 miles outside Rye, just before you reach Winchelsea.
