Hermitage Court Farm is the Isle of Wight's most solitary and quiet Bed and Breakfast lodging: the perfect place in which to receive away from the fuss of up-to-date living and unwind for a whilst between greenish of the downs and the blue of the sky, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Perched cosily under the tops of the National Trust's St Catherine's Down, and gazing down over the gorgeous rustic Isle of Wight village towards the waters of the Solent, the ten-acre Farm is hidden away, well off beaten tracks and more than a mile from the nearest major highway, on the southern side of the Island. From here, and from the Downs at our doors, you are able to see everything ... yet hear nothing but the odd rabbit thumping across the lawn, a pigeon chortling, or the woodpeckers dining in the trees. Our quiet surroundings, however, hide the chance for a lot of action. The Downs of the island of Wight are full of history-from antique burial mounds and a old-fashioned lighthouse to one of Britain's most amusing Victorian follies - and full of occasions for slow exploration. A net of the Island's widely-known bridleways and footpaths crosses different parts of the site, and there is easy access to over a hundred miles of the best and best-maintained footpaths, riding tracks and mountain-bike trails in Britain. A twenty-minute walk across the Downs (or a highly much shorter auto trip) brings you to the surrounding countryside of Niton, with its fascinating butiques and hospitable pubs, whilst a small further on you arrive to the famously beautiful village of Godshill with its much-photographed thatched roofs and outstanding cream teas. The Isle of Wight waterside cities of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor - renowned as vacation venues from Victorian times -- with their shining beaches and their rock strolls are just a short ride away.
