General Information

An ideal 19th Century Coach House on the edge of Dartmoor, just 2. five miles from the very heart of historic Tavistock, home of Sir Francis Drake. On the edge of the Tamar Valley which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and just 15 miles from Plymouth, with its historic Barbican where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America. Unfortunatley we do not have the amenities to serve for under five year olds. Perfectly located for strolling Dartmoor or the Tamar Valley, playing hole golf at one of the plenty of courses surrounding, coarse fishing in lakes less than a mile from the guesthouse or elegant trout fishing at the illustrious Tavistock Trout Fisheries. The Coach House was constructed on a place, which was aboriginally an Anglo Saxon settlement in 850 AD. It was constructed by The Duke of Bedford in 1857 to his own design as part of a model farm, and it was sold in 1988 and converted to a little family run hotel. In 1996, an adjoining property was property was purchased to provide the guesthouse a entire of 13 bedrooms, 2 of which have 4 posters with champion vistas across the dale to Dartmoor. The restaurant which features 40 covers faces small walled park and is open each night. We have a well stocked brasserie and a hall district facing a walled courtyard. The inn is next to Morwellham Quay a living museum based on the original copper mine and port which thrived in the 1850's. we are also only four to five miles from the National Trust property of Cotele House and Gardens and approximately the same distance from Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake when he defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588.
