General Information

A sincere welcome awaits at The George and Dragon. We are located in the lively, quintessentially English city of Long Melford in Suffolk and give authentic ales, nice home-cooked food and live amusement. Our inn is a construction that shows the passage of time and heritage. It is quirky, captivating, character filled and person. If you are searching for the uniformed certainty of the corporate chain owned 'lodge' or 'inn', then you'll be disappointed. Our 12 en-suite bedrooms are all various in size and layout with every one offering something various. However all rooms offer the essentials such as: En-suite service (all bathrooms completely renowated August 2010), Crisp, fresh linen on homely beds, TV, Tea and facilities of making coffee, Full English or nutritious breakfas included. The George and Dragon Inn is our historic Suffolk training inn with its inherent character and conventional spell. It's that conventional quality that we strive to maintain and preserve, delivering what is expected from such an establishment. We have a charming mixture of persons that produce up our clientele - locals, work travelers and clients all enjoy every other's company in an idle and familiar atmosphere. In the winter, coal and log fires entice you in from the cold and in summer months our big terraces and patio propose al fresco dining and a spot to unbend in the sun. Our highly huge heated umbrella (7m x 5m) proposes undercover space for smokers (and drinkers! ) in all weathers and welcome shade in the summer months. The shed as it features become fondly known, is a thatched dining pavilion seating up to eight in comfort, perfect for that special reason or privately-owned party. We have a function suite in the park that is used for conferences, presentations or as an intimate breakfast room. What you are able to be secured of is that we are waiting for everyone's company and making sure a superior time is had, if dining with us, drinking or enjoying one of our functions or live music occasions. We provide real friendship and character without pretence or ceremony, unless certainly it is a special celebration when we are very suitable at ceremony and cinema!


Transportation

Long Melford is easily reached from London (just over 50 miles away), from Cambridge or from the Midlands. The countryside is in the fantastic countryside of Suffolk, embedded in the midst of the vale of the River Stour. It's highly simple to find, just north of Sudbury, beside the A134 highway to Bury St Edmunds. From the South, go via the city of Sudbury. Long Melford is three miles to the North, bypassed by the A134 from a roundabout where you turn left for the countryside. From the North, from Bury St Edmunds, follow the A134 for 12 miles South towards Sudbury. Turn right on the A1092 as for Clare, and you're immediately in the countryside of Long Melford. At the Green, go on down the hill for the very heart of the countryside, rather than following the Clare highway to the right. There is a railway connection (London Liverpool Street station) to Sudbury changing trains at Marks Tey. Buses run roughly each thirty minutes from Sudbury to Long Melford. Bury St Edmunds also features a train station, connecting to Cambridge and Ipswich. Buses from Bury St Edmunds to Sudbury (or Colchester) go through Long Melford. The George and Dragon is in the very heart of the countryside, on the right hand side whether coming from Sudbury and on the left whether hiking from Bury St Edmunds.
