A sincere welcome awaits at the Shaven Crown hotel - one of the 10 oldest inns in the state. The guesthouse is located right in the centre of the idyllic Cotswold countryside of Shipton-Under-Wychwood, close to Chipping Norton. Steeped in heritage, the inn is full of spell and character with log fires, genuine ales and tasty food. The guesthouse was founded in the fourteenth century by the monks of Bruern Abbey and later used as a royal hunting lodge by Queen Elizabeth I. Via the centuries it features kept its spell and a lot of original has remain, including the fourteenth century gateway and the double-braced roof structure of the Great Hall. The hotel’s intimate restaurant is perfect for those desiring to have dinner in still and calmness whilst the patio provides the ideal setting for al fresco dining in the summer months. Serving conventional British cuisine, only the best quality fresh ingredients and local make are used whenever possible. The Monk's Bar is overflowing with character (as are the locals! ) and provides the ideal setting for visitors and locals to enjoy genuine ales, lovely wines and superb food.
