General Information

The Queen’s Head Inn embedded in the very heart of the countryside of Tirril, which nestles on the edge of the Lake District National Park, is the epitome of an English Country Inn. Primarily built in 1719 the Queen’s Head features been in use as a Pub since that time gathering over the years all the bric a brac, memorabilia and character you would expect from an age antique Inn. Distinctive of Cumbria’s buildings, the Queen’s features sturdy two-foot thick stone walls keeping it cool in summer months and holding in the heat of the roaring genuine fire in winter. (With Lakeland’s notoriously changeable weather it's neither unusual, nor unwelcome to find yourself sat in the inglenook hearth in June appreciating the blaze. ) If you're sat in the hearth take the possibility to look up and you are able to see the original meat hooks for smoking meats peaceful in spot – although not all of them - as local legend features it some are missing thanks to the unceremonious arrival of a plumber in the brasserie, who had soon before been working in the airing cupboard above!! Earlier this century the Queen’s Head was stretched into the adjoining cottages as these date from 1733 this features done small to alter the conventional environment and appearance of the Inn. Lately the original flagstone and floor boarded floors have been exposed in the bars adding to the oak beams and wooden settles to provide a feel in the Inn not dissimilar to the days when the Wordsworths owned the premises.
