Talbot Hotel Oundle

Images of Talbot Hotel Oundle

General Information

The ghost of Mary Queen of Scots is said to haunt the Elizabethan Talbot Hotel. The oak staircase, and other parts of the structure, were brought from the ruins of Fotheringhay Castle. It was down these steps that she walked to her execution. Whether all this sinister historical association puts you off, you needn't worry, Queen Mary hasn't been sighted for over a month now. The hotel is proud of oak beams, open fires and transomed windows. The intimate restaurant and homey bar propose conventional British cuisine, marvellous wines and authentic ales. The Talbot has just been fully rejuvenated, keeping its spell and character whilst bringing the amenities up to date, including Wifi. The Talbot features 35 en room bedrooms including four good feature apartments. Oundle is a stone-built city with a lot of Georgian architecture to admire and a fourteenth century church. Also surrounding is Lyveden New Bield, the shell of an unfinished lodge begun in 1595, planned in the shape of a cross. Whether you are searching for some present-day life, Peterborough (and its shopping centre) is directly ten miles away. The inn now proposes independent Wi Fi.
