General Information

Built adjacent to a seventeenth centuty Inn on the banks of the Teign estuary, the hotel proposes a (modern) cozy atmosphere if your visit is for work or leisure. There features been a hostelry on the premises since Roman times. It was the premises of a tidal ford and tourists would arrive and wait to cross the river. The hostelry became known as the passage way' across the river now the Passage House. In later years a granite railway was constructed to link the quarries on Dartmoor with the Stover Canal shipping granite which was used on a lot of of London's renowned buildings. Also china clay was mined locally and shipped out through the Hackney Canal. The river was a hive of activity with the Lightermen and Barge's working the estuary and canals. The ruins of their cottages are calm to be seen on the riversides along from the Inn. We are ideally located as a base to discover the joy of Devon, from the towering purple sandstone cliffs and sheltered sandy coves with attractive bays along the coastline to the contrast of the wild and rugged terrain of Dartmoor. The hotel proposes a greatly stylish and relaxing relaxation room with a Steam Room, Sauna and well appointed Gym. Our Beauty Salon proposes a variety of treatments, massage and aromatherapy. For savoury coffee and that unofficial meet, the Vue balcony and greenhouse proposes lovely views of the estuary. Our Lightermans Restaurant proposes desk d'hote' and a la carte' menus, making one of the best use of local make. For a more unofficial dining experience (or as an alternative) you are able to have dinner at the Inn which provides a matchless Carvery and an immense carte menu from a sandwich to succulent steaks and fish.
