A warm hospitality is waiting for you at this well-established family-managed hotel, Harris Hotel, where the hotel proposes conventional island cordiality, luxurious food and a soothing atmosphere. Superbly located in Tarbert, the guesthouse is the best ground from which to tour Harris, Lewis and the other islands.

Whatever your interest, strolling, hill-climbing, fishing, bird-watching, golfing, photography, painting or just lounging and enjoying the miles of sandy beaches, Harris features something for each guest.

Harris Hotel was constructed in 1865 and at that time belonged to the North Harris Estates. The estates have been owned over the last century by a few families such as the Earl of Dunmore, Sir Samuel and Sir Edward Scott, Lord Leverhulme and Sir Tom Sopworth.

The Cameron family took over the lease of the inn in 1903, having moved from the Taychreggan Hotel by Loch Awe in Argyllshire. The family have been here continually since then apart from a brief period in the 1930's and purchased the guesthouse outright from the estate in 1948.

The third and fourth generation are now involved in the running of the guesthouse. Today we invite guests from all over the world to taste the sights of the Western Isles - artists, writers, geologists, archeologists, and even 'castaways' and film producers!

The prominent novelist J. Metres. Barrie visited Harris in the 1920's, where he was inspired in his writing of Mary Rose. His initials, which he himself etched, able to peaceful be seen in the breakfast room window.
