General Information

The Mansfield House Hotel looks out over the city of Hawick from high ground to the south of the River Teviot. It sits in 10 acres of its own terraces near Mansfield Park rugby ground in the suburbs of this, the biggest of the Border cities. Hawick is world well known for its knitwear, specially cashmere, and is famous to rugby enthusiasts. Its annual Common Riding is ranked as one of the world's ultimate parties alongside The Rio Mardi Gras in Rough Guides' World Party book because it unites the thrills of Pamplona's Fiesta de San Fermin with the concentrated drinking of Munich's Oktoberfest. 'The cottage was aboriginally called Thornwood and was the privy home of the Oliver family, built in 1870. These entrepreneurs of the recent industrial age with taste influenced the a lot of typical architectural has, from the thistle and rose ceilings of the reception desk apartments to the Russian pine shutters and doors throughout the first floor. The care to detail in the design and finish is a testament to the qualified local craftsmen that designed this lovely building. The Hodgson family acquired Mansfield House in 2009 and they continue the restoration and improvements to the guesthouse. Public zone are already being altered and present-day bathrooms are scheduled for winter 2009. The terraces have been gradually renewed to their former glory and the woody hillside that surrounds the guesthouse is an adventurer's playground. We restful have our own spring water, although it's no longer used in the inn and we have a growing contingent of shy scarlet squirrels. As you might expect of a cottage built in the 1800s, every of the hotel's fourteen bedrooms have their own specific personal characteristics. However, all of the bedrooms have en suite amenities with color televisions and straight dial telephones.
