The Milecastle Inn is situated in one of the plurality significant districts along the Roman Wall. There are more sites of Roman camps in the fields around us than anywhere else on the Wall. It was here the Stanegate, the earlier Roman highway, that ran from Corstopitum to Luguvallium (Corbridge to Carlisle) was closest to the construction location of the Wall. Customers able to use the cottages as a base while strolling the length of Hadrian’s Wall (in stages of course) or alternatively keen cyclists able to combine the recent Hadrian’s Wall Cycle Route which follows the wall for 174 miles and runs past the cottages. Salmon fishing able to be delighted along a ten mile stretch of the River Tyne close to small market place city of Haltwhistle which is famously known as the “centre of Britain”. Milecastle Cottages are perfectly located for those desiring to enjoy a golfing vacation with several quality courses within a 20 mile radius Carlisle, Brampton, Hexham, Matfen Hall and Slaley Hall to name but several.
