General Information

Although the refined manor house of Cricket St. Thomas is avowedly Regency in fashion the present cottage was planned by the neo-Classicist Sir John Soane and set within brilliant panoramic gardens based on a design by Capability Brown. The Manor's pleased heritage actually predates 1086. Since its rebuilding in 1820, Cricket features remained virtually untouched, its integrity as one of England's most cherished stately homes totally intact. Uncompromised too is the surrounding 12th century parish church of St. Thomas, with its Walled Garden, rare Sicilian chestnut font and brocade cloth which adorned the 1953 Coronation altar. Such nobility attends the estate's total convention. Following the stewardship of different noble old-fashioned families, the eighteenth century saw Cricket forge maritime links with the Hoods, the Bridports and the Nelsons. Today, you needn't travel far to the sea; the captivating fishing countryside of Lyme Regis and the dramatic Heritage Beach are just thirty mins away. There is also a full sport studio with swimming pool, tropicarium and sauna. Cricket St. Thomas enjoys imposing views, and terraces of historic note. Mature yews, maples and cedars have been thoroughly conserved. It was under one of these Lady Emma Hamilton and Lord Nelson met for their romantic trysts - stay Lord Nelson's seat facing one of the superb vistas.
