The Old Rectory proposes luxury Bed & Breakfast in a historic cottage. Located near Boscastle on the pretty North Cornish beach, within an hours drive of the M5 at Exeter. An amiable base to stay Cornwall's Eden Project, Lanhydrock House, a range of Cornish terraces, unspoiled beaches and plenty of other Cornish treasures. Our cottage is encircled by three acres of attractive mature south overlooking terraces including a productive Victorian walled park. Thomas Hardy stayed here as a young architect and met and fell in love with Emma Lavinia Gifford. The romance led to the novel "A Pair of Blue Eyes", and to some of his ultimate poetry. Customers are welcome to enjoy a drink in the clients own living room, or on our viewing deck over looking the sea and the Valency dale. We are also can cater suppers by arrangement in our freshly rebuilt greenhouse facing the park. All the make we use is either from the park or sourced locally and we use Fair Trade products where possible. The North Cornish beach is famous for its Surf and for those searching for beaches there are a few to pick from. Heading north there are: - Strangles, Crackington Haven, Widemouth and two beaches at Bude. There are plenty of delightful pubs full of character, some with live music in the brasserie on certain in the evenings and an affluence of eating-places, to suit each pocket. Come and visit as our dear guests and enjoy a brush with heritage. We hope you'll leave with "Magic in your eyes" as Thomas Hardy did. One well behaved dog is allowed in the Old Stable. All rooms in the hotel have a washhouse bag we will wash and air dry any clothes for you free. (for bookings of two nights or more).
