The Royal specialises in short breaks - its main location and hospitable, unofficial ambience makes it a ideal location for a short vacation in the pleasant City of Bath. This decidedly Georgian looking hotel was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the well-known English architect of the time, for the arrival of the railway in Victorian times and the 'Royal' prefix was presented as a reminder of Queen Victoria's visit to the City of Bath. The Royal commenced trading in 1846. The original name was the Royal Station Hotel and because of the growing influence of rail travel and its immediate vicinity to the station in 1852, an top level footbridge was built directly linking the ground floor of the hotel with the station platforms for the conveniences of hotel customers. This footbridge remained till 1936. The Royal has changed ownership several times during its nearly 150 years of heritage and in March 1995, PR Inns acquired the work. 'PR' is a little privately-owned company, wholly owned by its 2 partners who are very trained hoteliers and restaurateurs. They are committed to continually improving both the physical aspects of the hotel and the standards of amenities, food and cordiality to ensure that clients have a cozy and attractive visit, which will be repeated a lot of times.
