Bampton in mid Devon lies at the foot of the Somerset border, and is on the edge of the Exmoor National Park. For the guest, it's superbly located for highway (M5) and rail links (Tiverton Parkway) and is at the very heart of a locality where there is much to do and investigate. Heron House is in the very heart of Bampton within the conservation district and with fine vistas to the back facing the park and then up to the forested mountains behind. Exmoor National Park in the ideal place for riding – hacking, trekking, or hunting. Within the National Park boundaries are some 400 miles (600kms) of bridleways. There several widely-known high bird shoots and syndicated Farmers shoots near Dulverton, where days able to be purchased including: Miltons, Chargot, Haddeo, West Molland, Molland & Wellshead.
