Dear Madam, dear Sir If you're reading this, you have something in common with Napoleon Bonaparte, Giacomo Casanova, Sophia Loren and Henry Kissinger – a trip to the Hotel Krone in Solothurn. That is naturally no coincidence. In the past, it was the promise routes of travel, passing by one of the oldest hotels in Switzerland, that brought our clients to us. Today, it's our particular ambience and spectacular quality, which are much appreciated by our regular clients and draw them back again and again. A trip to the Hotel Krone is a rewarding experience. Referred to as an inn as early as 1418, the Hotel Krone was totally rebuilt in 1772 in the early classical fashion, and since then it has kept its situation in one of the most interesting and complete ensembles of baroque architecture to be found in all of Europe. This is a site where heritage has been made and is silent being made, as evidenced by the antiques you'll find in the Hotel Krone wherever you turn. Naturally, this hotel is distinguished not only by custom, but also by its «living» qualities. As well as the highest possible level of comfort and courteous facilities, we cultivate an prominent cuisine. Our kitchen proposes everything from little, delicate lunches to stately gala dinners. Room information
The Rooms. In this hotel, we purpose to contradict the prejudicial vista that all hotel suites must look the same. If Louis XV or Biedermeier – every suite in the Krone has its own character and welcomes our customers with an ambiance steeped in heritage whilst offering the highest standard of comfort. Nicely curved chairs at marquetry tables, old bedsteads, clocks and wall decorations inspire clients to dream of times long since past when Casanova gave his all. This nostalgia is subtly combined with the latest up-to-date conveniences. All suites are equipped with bath or shower, direct-dial phone, radio/TV, mini brasserie and cosmetic brasserie, hairdryer and safe. The apartments are located on the upper 2 floors, can be easily accessed by elevator and propose a majestic panorama of Solothurn’s vivid alleyways and the incredible St Ursen Cathedral.
Food & beverage
The Restaurants. In the restaurants and carouse halls of the Krone, discerning gourmets have long delighted advanced, seasonal food with sumptuous amenities in a regal ambiance. The Ambassadorenstube. This glutton restaurant allows up to 36 discerning connoisseurs to enjoy advanced Mediterranean cuisine catered with elegance in a regal ambience. Nobility, outstanding statesmen, stars from opera, film, tv, culture and literature, economic moguls and discerning gourmets have everytime delighted being pampered in the Ambassador Room. The Kronengarten. In the very heart of the city of Solothurn and against a backdrop steeped in heritage lies one of Switzerland’s ten most lively gastronome restaurants (GaultMillau Guide). The hidden treasure is called «Kronengarten», and can be found on the verandah of the baroque park in the lively indoor patio of the Hotel Krone. Here up to 40 gourmets can have dinner al fresco by candlelight and enjoy a Mediterranean ambiance while partaking of advanced Mediterranean cooking with luxurious amenities. The menu properties 4 entrées, starters, major courses and desserts and one purely vegetarian dish is offered per course. The cooking is “à la minute”, using only the freshest and finest ingredients of the season. Included in the price is the specific ambiance of the verandah in this rear patio: the panorama of the captivating baroque park and of the unbelievable chancel of the Jesuit church is simply thrilling. The gentle splashing of the ornamental fountain and the song of the birds are balsam for the senses. And with a small luck, customers will be able to listen to the song of one of the choirs during their rehearsals in the Jesuit church. The Stadtrestaurant. Our stylishly equipped restaurant provides suite for up to 80 persons to enjoy seasonal home cooking fresh from the market place at moderate prices. The Boulevardcafé. When in spring the 1st rays of the sun touch the majestic steps leading up to the St Ursen Cathedral, the Boulevardcafé in facade of the Hotel Krone also awakes from its winter's hibernation. The Kronenplatz provides the essential mise-en-scène and the cafeteria the choice of culinary pleasure: sumptuous à la carte dishes or delicious bistro lunches, gelati from the ice cream stand, espresso or latte macchiato, a glass of Prosecco or a cool beer... See and be seen is the order of the day, and the steady flow of persons up and down this alleyway at all hours provides a permanent theme of conversation. The Kronenbar. The Kronenbar is the most conventional brasserie in Solothurn. The motto here has constantly been: «A gorgeous evening begins with an aperitif in the Kronenbar. And the most good in the evenings can also be brought to a close with a nightcap in the Kronenbar».
Area information
Solothurn is a treasure amongst Swiss cities. It has been described as the most scenic baroque city in Switzerland, and is often also referred to as the «ambassador town» because it's characterised by the architecture of former royal French ambassadors (1530 to 1792). Solothurn combines Italian grandeur with French spell and local Swiss-German natural flair.

How to get to the hotel. • Autobahn A1 Zürich/Bern • At Luterbach intersection turn off onto Autobahn A5 direction Biel/Bienne • Take exit «Solothurn Ost» • Kantonsstrasse towards Biel/Bienne • In Solothurn turn left at Baseltor combination (near the cathedral) towards the ancient town. • Drive through the ancient town door (Baseltor) and pass the cathedral. The hotel is situated on your left.

Before 18. 00 hours on the day of arrival. After 100% of the costs will be charged. The hotel reserves the right to pre-authorise credit cards prior to arrival.
