Major park amusements: Coimbra is the town with the most academic custom in Portugal and a trip to the Universidade de Coimbra is a must. Wander through the celebrated library and steep in the convention of the students' black capes, with every tear representing the amorous conquests. In the top part of the town, do not neglect to visit to the Machado de Castro Museum - the biggest Roman building in the Iberian Peninsula - with Gothic houses, Renaissance and Baroque works of arts, and a monumental range of porcelain. The city heart has much to propose the guest and the city centre quarter - known as the Baixa - by the River Mondego, is a warren of enchanting narrow streets, and it is full of boutiques, cafés and churches. Entirely apart from the big number of museums in the town, the Roman ruins of Conímbriga are certainly noteworthy and can be found at the foot of the city of Condeixa-a-Velha. For kids, the Portugal dos Pequeninos topic garden is undoubtedly the major attraction, where Portugal's key historical and cultural landmarks are reproduced in miniature constructions, up to four meters high. Travel information
From the A1: Coming from the A1 - Lisbon - Oporto, exit the motorway at Coimbra-Sul. After the toll gates, follow Av. Professor Mário Silva (highway to Taveiro) towards the city center. Once you have reached the Açude Bridge, turn into the 1st avenue on the right, towards Rua Padre Estêvão Cabral, and the mix with Av. Fernão de Magalhães. At the Fernão de Magalhães roundabout, turn right and follow the Avenue till you arrive at some traffic lights. At the 2nd set of traffic lights, turn left, on Rua Dr. Manuel Rodrigues till you get to Rua da Sofia. Turn left, pass in facade of the Law Courts and turn left again. You have entered the Rua João Machado. On your right, you'll find the Tivoli Coimbra.
