Posada Santa Fe Hotel Guanajuato

General Information

Probably the 1st hotel in Guanajuato, and of course one of the best known, the Posada Santa Fe is the spot to visit in city.

Not only does it cottage a venerable range of the works of local artist and historian Manuel Leal, it also features the plurality desirable tables for soaking up the local ambiance - right on the vivid Jardin de la Union. Enter the opulent foyer and you could be in one of the best hotels in Mexico. Lofty beamed ceilings, delicate chandeliers and old chairs all fade into insignificance alongside the giant paintings dominating the walls.

The off-lobby restaurant features the same setting, as does the hall, with ancient chairs and couches ideal for pre-dinner cocktails. Visitor apartments are approached up a winding staircase, with a colorful tile surround. The apartments themselves vary from the high ceiling rooms at the facade of the guesthouse to simpler decoration at the rear.

All have a certain spell, a slightly faded grandeur, yet updated with up-to-date facilities. The guesthouse features been owned and administrated by the same family for a few generations, and although there are thrilling plans for future improvements, the emphasis is on retaining the historic and the conventional.

Meals catered in the restaurants are as pleasant as the setting, and the tranquil location is one of the best in city. Guanajuato itself is not short of sights and only problem could be trying to drag away.

Dining Information

At breakfast there may be a chef at business under the canopies outside, making tortillas and cooking Gordidas de Maiz and other peculiarities on conventional equipping. Evenings, try Pozole - a dish native to surrounding Guadala jara that is almost a soup, made from pork, chicken and maize, seasoned with oregano, onions and chilies. Certainly, there are plainer alternatives for those wary of spicy food, from steaks to fish al gusto.
