The residential building was planned by Gaetano Koch, a roman architect of the 2nd half of the 19th-century; the artwork was commissioned by Marquess Francesco Saverio Lavaggi. Gaetano Koch is also the designer of the arcaded buildings nearby Repubblica Square, the Banca D’Italia building in Nazionale Street, the Ludovisi castle in Veneto Street, nowadays housing the American Embassy, and other countless historical buildings in Rome. The superb building’s fashion owes its inspiration to the 11th-century Roman buildings, and today it's under the preservation of the Belle Arti.
