Area information
Palazzo Cardinal Cesi is only several yards from St Peter's Square, on the grand Via della Conciliazione, in what used to be called the Spina dei Borghi (the district lying between the ancient Borgo and the recent Borgo). The highway was planned by the architects Piacentini and Spaccarelli, and completed in 1950 with the erection of 2 rows of obelisks serving as lamp-posts. Its name, suggested by the journalist Franco Franchi, is a reference to the historic peace agreement between the Church and State: the Lateran Pacts. Just a stone's throw away from St. Peter's Basilica, are the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and Castle Sant'Angelo Fortress. Plenty of of the city's other most renowned sites and memorials, such as the impressive Pantheon, the captivating Piazza Navona, the picturesque Piazza del Popolo and the great Spanish Steps are only a 20 or 30 minute stroll. The surrounding metro station, as well as the a lot of bus lines running through the region, provides fast and direct access to the rest of the town and all its most prominent sights and memorials. In the instant vicinage of the property, you'll find some of Rome's finest shopping venues, delightful cafes and restaurants.
