Area information
Palermo is the major city in the Sicilian area. The name comes from the Greek term Panormus, meaning ‘full harbour’. Palermo’s origins are Phoenician-Punic, but the city had its most prosperous time under the Greeks and the Arabs, who developed it into one of the most indispensable Mediterranean emporiums. In the year 1200, the town was the residence of the emperor Frederick II of Swabia who changed it into the major cultural heart of the island. On October, 21 1860, due to to Garibaldi, the town was annexed to the Reign of Italy. Cancellation policy
