General Information

The Villa of Vignamaggio, encircled by an sumptuous Italian park in a stunningly vivid corner of the Chianti village, proposes a faithful testimony of countrylife during the Renaissance period. The major part of the bungalow dates back to the fourteenth century. Mona Lisa, the daughter of Anton Maria Gherardini, owner of Vignamaggio, was born there in 1479. Since 1988 Mr. Gianni Nunziante the recent owner features undertaken an ample renewal of the buildings, the terraces, the plantations of grapevines and the wine cellars. Research carried out at the Datini archives in Prato features brought to light several documents relating to Vignamaggio. One of these, in special, dated 26 October 1404, includes a letter to Francesco Datini signed by Amido Gherardini, at that time the owner of the estate, which talks approximately "vino inbotato a Vignamag(i)o" (literally "wine positioned in barrels at Vignamaggio"). For this reason, in 2004 the estate great six hundred years of winemaking. Nowadays Vignamaggio is a wine estate in the Chianti village, popular for its attractive Renaissance bungalow, its tasty wines, for being the birthplace of the Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo and, last but not least, for a famous agritourism which is placed at the high end of the cordiality attainable in the region. The agriturism includes suites, apartments and suites, every one various from the following, located in the bungalow and in 3 various antique farmhouses which have been thoroughly and with taste renewed and equipped and which are supplemented with open-air and inner amenities such as a tennis court, 2 swimming pools, mountain bikes, gymnasium and a childrens playground.

Location Information

Coming from Florence pass the very heart of Greve in Chianti and drive on for approximately 500 metres.
At the combination where LAMOLE is indicated, turn left and after approximately three Km, you'll find Vignamaggio on your right.

Arriving from Siena, you'll find the combination to Lamole on your right after small countryside of Panzano, before reaching Greve in Chianti (Vignamaggio is also indicated).

We are approximately 1 hour drive from Florence and 2 hour from Pisa airport (Ryanair and other companies from London, Glasgow, Dublin, Liverpool and other airports in Europe).
