It was designed in 1997 via the restoration and conversion of Palazza Pegna, the antique residence of a family of merchants, whose original structure features been maintained intact.
Porta Faenza was part of the town walls and was located at the end of what is up until now called Via Faenza. It features been so called not for being positioned towards the city in Emilia, but from the name of the Nuns from Faenza, who had their convent in the surrounding area once. Between 1534 adn 1537 Porta Faenza was connected to the Fortezza da Basso without being demolished: by watching attentively you are able to silent distinguish its sqared profile in the central bastion towards the town or its arch from the interior of the fortress.
