Transportation

Situated in the western part of Peloponnese, the region is world-famous for its essential archaeological findings and, above all, the premises of Ancient Olympia. The antique location of Olympia is embedded in a district at the very foot of Kronion Hill which features been inhabited continuously ever since the 3rd millennium BC. Legend features it that the Olympic Games were held here in 776BC in honour of Zeus by Pelops, the king of the Peloponnese. The old Olympic Games came to an end in 393 BC but 15 centuries later, in 1896, the current Olympic Games began. Since then, a torch-bearer constantly starts a trip from Olympia to carry the sacred flame to the site of the Games.
