Tax Back at Luton Airport

This is becoming my meme

Small airports sometimes have big advantages. At the major UK airports like Heathrow and Gatwick, if you want to claim the sales tax (VAT) back from a purchase you need to show the item and passport to a customs officer. But smaller airports don’t have full time staff on hand. Luton airport is a case in point. To claim the tax back you just post the receipt into a post box. No need to show the item, or to even have the item with you. Great for those bigger things you cannot take as hand luggage. See this link for where to find the box.

Now to do this properly you have to provide a non EC address to receive your cheque from the tax man. But as long as you can get a secure address, anytime you fly out of Luton you can save yourself the 15% of the purchase price. Everyone’s a winner.
